Luminescence

Luminescence

Your love whispered
a waft of breath.
Your light a shine
but not incendiary,
’til now.

Somehow, with
a slow and easy grace
you carried oxygen
across and toward
and into me,
waiting.

Like the female firefly
who selects her mate
according to the power
of his flash,
for years I chose your words,
blinking, blinking, blinking
eventide
and held them
in my heart aglow
never burning touch,
’til now.
