Ransome Marcus McEntire and Rosa Whitworth McEntire

(Fern McEntire Price, FredMcEntire, Richard McEntire, Ransome)

(Rosa was the daughter of Thomas Ransome Whitworth and Mary Craft).
Records often show the name as Whitter. Thomas Ransome was the son of
William Whitworth (Whitter) and Mary Middle.)

Ransome was the son of Josiah Joseph McEntire and Louvenia Proctor McEntire.
Josiah Joseph leaves Cleveland County and moves to Walker County, Georgia. He remarries (Martha Horde).
These records are a quest.

A good source is Dan McIntire's Rootsweb file:

  • Married: 18 JUN 1818 in Rutherford County, North Carolina
  • Note: Bride: Luvina Proctor Groom: Josiah McIntire Bond Date: 18 Jun 1818 County: Rutherford Record #: 01 204 Bondsman: William Botts Witness: Thomas Martin Bond #: 000134995

Documents show Ransome's name spelled as Ransom. (Forthcoming).

The Ransom and Rosa picture at the lead of this post is part of a Family reunion flyer from Sept 14, 1975 for the McEntire Clan. Attendees were invited to gather at Ransome's grave site located at Zion Baptist Church, Zion Chruch Rd. just off Hwy, 226, Shelby, NC.

I attended this reunion with my mother, Fern, and my grandfather Fred. (photos forthcoming).

I remember that Fred and mom spoke with some of their "Arkansas" relatives who attended.

Family lore tells that Ransom was a "famous shot." This must be true as he was a member of the Cleveland Marksmen.

Service records include:

Ransom McEntire (Capt OP Gardner's Co (Cleveland Marksman) 38 Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops)
Ransom's occupation is listed as a "waggoner."  (Source, image of actual file, p. 16, Footnote)
